Definition of a Friend

What is the definition of a friend? Many people have friends that they can count on for anything. Others have fair-weather friends that are there when they need something. There are countless definitions of what a friend could be. Someone who has a close personal relationship of mutual affection and trust with another is the dictionary's definition of a friend.

Although there are many definitions of a friend, one knows the true meaning of friendship if they have ever had a friend. Friends often come and go but true friends always stay. Many people learn from their friends and often ask the advice of their buddy. Having a good friend can usually brighten a bad day, and make one smile since that is what friends are for.

Being a good friend means that one will not judge the others mistakes but help with the correction of the mistakes. A good friend listens to problems and lends useful advice to better their situation. Being a good pal means that no matter what happens one will stand next to their friend's decisions and choices. Sometimes one may not always like what their friends have to say but since there is a common ground between the two one will often listen and respect what the other has to say.

Often times there is a challenge in camaraderie and some of the time there is an all out loss of friendship. Many people are friends with others but do not always treat their friend how they should. This results in fighting between friends. Most of the time it is a quick argument that ends in a better understanding of the others feelings. But sometimes friendships are hurt and it could take a very long time to repair the friendship, if it even could be repaired.

Support of a friend is one of the most important things that a friendship can offer. Letting a buddy know that one is behind them in whatever they do and that one will support them in the decision they make is a good foundation for friendship. Even though one might not make the same choices that their friend does, they will still support whatever decision their friend makes.

The Definition of Courage Essay - The Definition of Courage    The current dictionary definitions of courage are inadequate because they only include references to physical courage and omit instances of inner strength.  Three contemporary dictionaries agree closely on the definition although they differ in the order of importance. Webster's New World Dictionary describes courage as "an attitude of facing and dealing with anything recognized as dangerous, difficult or painful, instead of withdrawing from it," and The American Heritage Dictionary gives a similar explanation.  While The Shorter Oxford Dictionary concurs with this meaning, it states that the primary definition is "spirit, mind, or disposition....   [tags: Expository Definition Essays ]

Essay on My Definition of Success - Do you know someone rich and famous. Is that person confident, popular, and joyful all of the time—the epitome of mainstream success. Or, on the other hand, is the person stressed, having second thoughts about his life choices, and unsure about the meaning of his life. I am willing to bet that it is the second one. Mainstream marketing and media have effectively brainwashed our society into accepting a false, even potentially dangerous definition of success. Marketers want us to believe that having lots of money, living in a big house, and owning all of the latest cars, fashions, and technology is the key to happiness, and hence, success....   [tags: Definition Essays 2014]

My personal definition of "friendship" is a feeling or emotion expressed in such a way that another feels wanted and important, a relationship between a person or persons where everyone has some companion to talk to when their in need of one. I would define friends as people whom you can have several types of relations with and feel several emotions for that person. Someone that one might go to in time of need. However, friendships differ between people. For example, the friendship that someone may have between them and their parents would be different than the friendship they might have with someone their age. There are many different friendships that people have. Friendships can exist between best friends, friends, lovers, children, parents, siblings, and many more. All of these differ in some way.

Everyone has a best friend. Whether it be with a person or an animal.

Essay on Friendship: The Importance of Trust - Friendship is a necessary aspect of every human’s life, as we are not self sufficient in and of ourselves (Other Selves, pg. 30). Despite its necessity, in some cases we are either forced or morally required to end relationships. When the trust between two parties has been broken, the loyalty of the friendship is soiled, and it is therefore a true and just action to end the friendship. First, let’s define what it means to be a friend. Friends can be described as: “an intimate associate, reliable, one who is not an enemy or foe, an ally, etc” (Webster’s, pg....   [tags: Friendship Essays]

Sometimes people who are lonely find that they have a companionship with their dog or cat. But, mostly when teenagers are the ones being discussed then they usually have more than one person they can go and talk to. To me a best friend is thought of as a person you tell everything to. They know your deepest darkest secrets, and you know theirs as well. Depending on how long you all have been friends, if it has been a long time then you also probably know everything about them, and the way they think, etc. If you are just friends with someone they may not know exactly everything about you and that person may not be the first person you might run to in order to just talk to someone, but you could go to them if you had to. The relationship could grow into a best friend
relationship.

When you are in a relationship with someone, your lover will become you best friend. Most of the time that results because they are usually the ones you talk to the most so eventually the two become close and they find themselves expressing their feelings to each other without even realizing that they are becoming closer every time. But, if you aren’t married then you still probably go to your best friends and tell them everything going on between you and your lover.

Parents and children I think fit together on this subject. Parents and children create a great friendship over time. Throughout a child’s life and especially through their adolescent years, children tend to pull away from their parents making it hard to actually establish a friendship with them. Teenagers experience knew things that they don’t want their parents to know about or they just don’t feel comfortable talking to their parents about it. Parents are the same way. There are some things that children don’t need know about. However, over the years when a child’s parents become unable to take care of themselves, then the children take of them and all their bills and other things. Children learn to appreciate their parents in life and learn that they can turn
to their parents a lot for support. The same goes for being close to their siblings. After all the meanness gets out of them, they realize the greatest friends end up being the people they used to beat up on as kids.

Friendship is a crazy thing. Some people you consider closer than others but overall their all still great people. Friendship is an awesome thing to have with someone. That way you never feel alone or unimportant. A friend is someone who will give you strength and help you get through the hard times. They stand by your side and take up for you no matter what. Its a great thing!
